Mary Gilmartin
I was born and raised on the south shore of Massachusetts and reside here with my husband and four daughters. I did not go to school for Art. I earned my bachelors degree in Earth Science with a concentration in Geology. While I was there, I took an art class and LOVED it. The first painting I sold was actually a homework assignment! I guess I should have changed my major.
I paint mostly in oils because of their rich colors, texture and ability to blend seamlessly. I also work in acrylics and I've started dabbling in watercolors. I try to incorporate my love of nature and her beauty into all of my paintings. I have thousands of reference photos that I've taken while out hiking with my girls. Although most of my work is done in studio, I do enjoy getting out with my easel when time allows and hope to get out even more in the future.
I have numerous awards from juried and national art shows and had quite a few solo shows, including one at the Massachusetts State House. Thank you for visiting my website.
